Just as the month of August approaches its end, allow me to take you back to the start of this important month and I how I am choosing to celebrate it.
South Africa experienced a revolution from thousands of women who stood together to fight for what they felt was right and just. For their rights and freedom, successfully through a march to the Union Buildings, Pretoria on 9th August 1956 against pass laws. These Women’s names are now engraved, not only in the history books but also in the lives and hearts of the generations to come, including mine.
Women mean a lot to me and are the core to my existence and being. In celebration of this month’s significance, I felt it befitting to celebrate and honour the women in my life who inspire me through their acts of selflessness, love and achievements.
I termed this piece ‘My Women’s Month Appreciation series’ and allow me to share it with you on this platform.
Over the course of the month of August 2017, I am dedicating each day of the month to a woman or a group of women in my life, some known others not as much, to celebrate them. I share the posts on my facebook account as part of my daily status message and here is a recollection of those thus far.
The series began on the 2nd of August 2017. Enjoy.
In celebration of women’s month, I have tasked myself with the difficult yet effortless task of honouring and appreciating the women, one for each day this month, both in my life and some known to the world, who continuously inspire me one way or the other in what they do and what they achieve.
I challenge you as well, if you are game and I know that a month is simply not enough to honour most if not all the women that make life such a beautiful experience for all of us. Such a better place to live in. Help me celebrate and honour them.
Today, seeing that I am 2 days late of the challenge, I give you two amazing women who you won’t hear about in the media for the superb work they do for the community of Phokeng in Rustenburg.
My mothers away from home.
I thought I have seen generous souls in my life before, but not to the extent that these two go to for many children from their community that are not their own. The warmth in their hearts and the passion they have for God’s Kingdom is remarkable and I thank them for welcoming me into their lives, home and ministry as it has been by far the best experience of my life in this town!
For teaching me patience, persistence and consistency. For showing me, everyday, what pure love looks, feels, smells and sounds like. How it behaves. And for doing all those things without expecting anything in return – the world is a much safer and comfortable place because of individuals like you. Not even once, have I heard these two complain about how hard life is or how difficult it is to feed and take good care of kids, from no income whatsoever. I have learnt to appreciate the little things in life from you two and I thank you, dearly.
For the wisdom, warmth, courage and time from your hectic schedule that you gladly set aside for me.
A very Happy Women’s Month to you!
