So many of us are too quick to react when we receive bad service, especially at retail stores but why don’t we make the opposite true as well – by being quick to pass a formal compliment for exceptional service?

The retail industry has a lot of stories, pertaining to customer service, ask most people, I am certain anyone can tell you all about those but I am not here for those at this point. But there comes a time when one person simply goes over and above their normal call of duty in how they execute their job. Why are we then too lazy to also go the extra mile for them in letting some people higher up the hierarchy know about it? It may make a difference or not, but doing it nonetheless clears a conscious.

I recently did just that.

A lady by the name Leah, working at a Woolworths store from The Glen shopping center gave me exceptional service recently. I then decided to slide into their (Woolworths’s Official) twitter account DMs and I retold the story of how she closed her till after closely inspecting the pants I bought for damages.

I was in a hurry, I just wanted to get something quickly and dash without looking at the nitty gritty stuff. I had to get an outfit in time for a photo shoot later on the day. The pants were damaged and all of this happened after we’ve completed the transaction. To cut the story short, she sorted out the incident for me with ease, without me lifting a leg or saying a word to their customer service personnel – which is located at a completely differently aisle from where her till was. Customer service tills are prone to result in delays because of the nature of transactions done that require a lot of questioning, authorizations from supervisors and filling in of receipts with reasons for either changing of the size or getting a refund.

Let’s be quick to pay a formal compliment for great service because there are those few individuals out there who always go the extra mile for us customers. You will never know the impact it will make.
